Level 3 (QCF) 1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

This course has been designed in order to give first aid training to those people working in what would be deemed a low risk environment or an environment with a small amount of staff. It is important that as an employer or person in charge of the health and safety provision of your organisation, you identify whether these requirements meet the HSE’s standard guidelines.

The Emergency First Aid at Work Course runs over a 6 hour period and gives the learner a good mixture of practical and theoretical first aid training.

On completion of the course the Emergency first aider will have confidence in dealing with a range of first aid incidents and will be able to approach a casualty with the knowledge that they can make a difference with the skills they have learnt.

The main elements that will be covered on the course include:

  • Responsibilities and reporting
  • Legalities
  • Recovery Position
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Heart attacks
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Resuscitation
  • Choking
  • Hygiene
  • Angina
  • Fainting
  • Foreign Objects
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Shock
  • Bleeding control
  • Seizures
Assessment is ongoing, and a three-year HSE approved qualification will be issued to those who meet the criteria.

In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of about three hours, although it is not mandatory.
